Goat Surf Club - Ireland

Join Roo, Ben and Thomas as they travel Ireland in a van to do what the Goat Surf Club does best -

sharing positive environmental stories through the lens of surf adventure...

The Goat Surf Club is back!!!

Expanding on our Trapped in Morocco Series, we’re now going one step further by partnering our love of surfing and traveling with uplifting storytelling about the environment. As passionate environmentalists, we hope to bring a deeper appreciation for the world around us through these surf adventures. While we’re in the water on our surf trips we get to see a lot of these issues up close - we touch the beach plastics, we see the pollution and we smell the water quality issues. In an attempt to learn more about what is being done to help alleviate some of the problems that face the environment we meet up with individuals helping make a positive impact in their community. We believe there’s a lot of doom and gloom in the media coverage about the climate story and we hope to change that - we want to lift up those doing great work in the world. We are the Goat Surf Club and this is what we do…

This project is to be released as a weekly episode series every Wednesday of July 2022 on Outside Magazine as well as on my Instagram and Youtube Channel.

Episode 1 -

The Goat Surf Club is back! Following up from our Trapped in Morocco series, we've planned a trip to Ireland to try to find waves along the windy coastline, sing songs to the trees and even meet up with an Old Irish Goat herder... but more on that later.

After a last-minute emergency root canal, some major flight delays and a late night ferry boat ride, the gang reunites in Ireland and heads west in search of surf.

Episode 2 ft. Hometree

In this episode, we connect with some new friends from Hometree - an environmental charity tackling Ireland's declining biodiversity by planting trees, creating community and bringing natural woodlands back to Ireland. There’s a lot that we took away from Hometree’s story - there’s so much power in community when it comes to creating change. When you bring people together to do good, that goodness can spread.

Check out more of Hometree's work here and, if you can afford to donate to their inspiring projects, please do so here.

Episode 3 ft. Old Irish Goat Society

Ireland is windy and wind doesn't always lead to great surfing. So, when we set off for a surf adventure in Ireland we knew we had to do some searching.

In between our hunt for waves, we connected with some fellow goat lovers - the Old Irish Goat Society. They're using goats as a way to mitigate wildfire potential in Ireland, so cool!! Make a donation or learn more about the Old Irish Goat Society here.

Episode 4 - Finale!

So, this has been fun but there's some things we want to discuss - Who is the Goat Surf Club? What is all this about? Well, we're a group of three friends hoping to share positive environmental stories through the lens of surf adventure.

We really hope you enjoyed this four part video series and if want to chat further about helping us find cool stories, inspiring people and/or interesting waves for us to explore on our next trip - send me an email using the contact form below!

What’s Next?!

So, this is an ongoing project documenting the Goat Surf Club in our attempt to share positive, impactful stories in surf communities around the world…

Our main goal with this is project to provide a couple of episode series sharing uplifting and positive stories in the environmental communities. Similar to what you saw above, we’re creating a sort of travel/surf/environmentalism style show that can educate people on different cultures, social and environmental issues through the lens of surf adventure.

As we continue developing the next trip we’d love to hear from YOU! We’re hoping to partner with environmental nonprofits, social justice organizations or individuals making an impact in their coastal communities around the world to share their stories and surf alongside them.

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING…

Let us know what you thought of our episode series and, if you have any ideas on where we should go next, hit us up!
