Job requirements for a part-time Assistant Video Editor

Heyyo!! So I’m on the hunt for a fun-loving, thoughtful and passionate assistant video editor to help with creating outdoor adventure films. I try to be very intentional about who I choose to work with so please try to share as much about your personality in addition to your editing skills in the application below.

As my assistant video editor, you will play an essential role in organizing footage, pulling selects, and editing short-form content for various ski, bike, surf, and climbing films. Pay is $20/hr and will be between 10-15hrs per week. You’ll be able to work from home but you must be based in Colorado since there will be occasional in-person projects. Priority will be given to Boulder based applicants.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and manage video footage in a clear and logical way

  • Work closely with Roo to create compelling storylines and video edits for all sorts of rad clients and adventures.

  • Review and pull selects for each project, ensuring that the best footage is selected for each scene

  • Edit and assemble footage into cohesive and visually appealing sequences for branded documentaries, video episodes, short form content and behind the scenes videos.

  • Collaborate with Roo to ensure that deadlines are met and content is delivered on time

  • Opportunities may arise for camera assistant opportunities for ski, climb, and bike films but this position will mostly take place behind your computer.

Requirements:

  • Passion for outdoor adventure sports, including skiing, biking, surfing, and climbing

  • Proven experience as a video editor, with a portfolio of work to showcase your skills

  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and your own computer to edit on. It’d be cool if you were familiar with Davinci Resolve too but no biggie if not!

  • Basic understanding of cinematography, color grading, and audio mixing

  • Basic understanding of (or enthusiasm to learn) media management, audio syncing, camera codecs and color profiles

  • Colorado based mandatory, Boulder based preferred

  • Great communication skills and ability to take direction and feedback

Roo is a commercial/documentary filmmaker and photographer based in Boulder, Colorado but travels all around the world for his filmmaking career. He has produced films for Outside Magazine in Ireland, camera operated for Netflix in the Rocky Mountain West, photographed among indigenous communities in Peru and Ecuador, directed videos with professional climbers in Mexico and has received notable recognition in his hometown of Orcas Island in Washington State for his work telling uplifting stories in the outdoor space.
